So i was given a dell poweredge server 2850, 2 x dual core 2.8ghz xeons/8gb ram and a asus hd6770 graphics card which preforms quit well in the modified x4 pcie slot (pictures coming soon), witch i installed windows 7 on and noticed that it had 4 parked cores and with a little registry hack/change it now runs as 2 x xeon quad cores true or not im impressed lol,
I have since been using it as a google adds server alongside using it as a family server for world of warcraft/minecraft and possibly a few other crafts ;)
also i have it racked up 600gb of hdd space for media streaming and backups/data storage, now this is handy as all my family photo's and video's are now in 1 location if you want the family to see the picture you put them here :)
basicly my point is all though these servers are old hat within any data center there is still good use for the yet, i also have a couple of hp ca21 thin clients which i have upgraded to 32gb cf drives with the 2.5inch ide to cf adaptors added 1 gb of ram and loaded them up with both linux mint and puppy linux and 1 has edubuntu running pretty snappy, my plan is to dot these about the house or more so my kids rooms (i have 6 children :) ) to serve solely as there 1st easy to use child friendly pc, i mean press 1 button boots in a flash (pun intended) and they can surf , educate and also dont forget they will be hard wired to the server through an old tower that i crammed with ethernet card all 1gbe, which is set to prioritise without disruption :)
